~ A Short Note ~

I have the opportunity of a lifetime to compete at the national speech and debate competition in Richmond, Virginia. Speech has been a huge factor in my life—competing for four straight years. I have dedicated my entire life to speech—qualifying to regionals and state every year. I will continue my love for theatre into college, where I will take part in every play and musical, majoring in communication education with an emphasis in theatre.

At this upcoming tournament in Virginia, I plan to take a supplemental poetry, where I will speak about the world's issues and depict it in a story.

A Letter From Sarah

My name is Sarah Roybal and I have been awarded the opportunity to compete at the National Speech and Debate competition in Richmond, Virginia, June 14th-20th!

My extracurricular activities started with band and drama in the 6th grade. I played percussion in band for five years, where I competed at solo and ensemble receiving two superior ratings my freshmen year of high school.

I left band my sophomore year to pursue being student-elected Captain of the Speech Team. I served in that role my junior and senior year.

I was dedicated to theatre from 6th grade to 12th grade, where I qualified to compete in numerous events at every state competition all years of high school. My senior year, I was one of two people who qualified for state with the maximum of three events. I also qualified to compete at the National Speech and Debate Competition in Richmond, Virginia, taking place in June 2026, and received a citation of congratulations from State Senator, Carri Hicks. I am a Special Distinction member of the National Speech and Debate Association, and a member of the International Thespian Society, due to my extensive participation in theatre productions.

Along with my participation in Speech, I was also casted in every play and musical my school produced, playing diverse roles.   I was a part of Stagecraft and PAC Crew for two years, learning to use tools and building sets for plays and musicals.

During my senior year, I had the honor of being invited to join the Advanced Choir and Jazz Choir at my high school, where I performed many solos. This experience taught me to expand my vocal range and technique in ways I was not used to.   All of these experiences taught me dedication, how to have a consistent work ethic, and how to take on leadership roles among my peers. Most importantly, it taught me that what I do does matter, and that every person’s actions makes a difference!

In college I plan on continuing to pursue and further my love for all things theatre, playing instruments, and singing.
